Getting out of check: capturing

If your king is in check, you must do something about it.
One way to escape check is by taking the piece that gives check.

Take a look at the board:
White’s king is in the corner.
But he can save himself by taking the queen.
Now he is out of check.
And he has swept Black’s strongest piece off the board as well!

If you’re in check, moving your king is often your first thought.
But don’t forget your other pieces.
They can often help to get out of check, too!

You can see this in the second example:
White’s king can’t move into safety.
White is lucky to have another piece.
His bishop can take the rook.

What do you have to do?
Your king is in check. Capture a piece to get out of check.
